Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves sold 4.00 to 8.00 higher. Yearling type offerings sold unevenly steady. Demand was good. After the Thanksgiving holiday is the switch from mostly bawling calves on the market to mostly longtime weaned calves. This week's upward swing in the market could be attributed to the large supply of calves weaned 45 days. Since majority of yearlings are sold feedlots will start procuring these wean calves to backfill empty pens. Many are seeking the heavier weight calf that they might still squeeze into an April harvest slot. But, as you view the report those light weight calves suited for summer grass sold very well. Feedlot sales were a tick disappointing as lives sales sold steady to 1.00 lower from 109.00-110.00 and dressed sales sold steady to 2.00 lower from 172.00-174.00. But on a plus side, the fall weather has been outstanding and many pens of cattle have gained .5 to 1.5 lbs per day better than projections.
