Nebraska Weekly Livestock Auction Summary

Receipts 25,643Last week 25,958Year ago 41,247

Compared to last week, steers under 500 lbs sold 4.00 to 10.00 higher, over 500 lbs sold 3.00 to 5.00 higher and yearlings sold steady to 3.00 higher. Flyweight heifers sold 6.00 higher, over 500 lbs sold 2.00 to 4.00 higher and yearlings sold steady to 4.00 higher. Demand was good to very good with a large crowd of buyers at most auctions and active internet buying noted at most sales. Bulk of the calves are fresh bawlers right off the cow, most have precondition shots and have a lot of eye appeal, big framed with weigh up in buyers favor. Higher market this week might be contributed to the farmer/feeder is done with harvest, they have large piles of feed and they can concentrate on weaning and keeping calves healthy. Comparing same week last year, this week there were more steers sold and the weights over 600 lbs came in 2% lower. The dry conditions across the state had a negative effect on the weight of these bawling calves. Moms milk and breeding bulls with high weaning weight EPD's did their part. If mother nature could have given the range some moisture, the grass would of added additional pounds to the sale weight. Feedlot lives sales sold at 2.00 to 4.00 higher than last week at 107.00 and dressed sales sold 4.00 to 9.00 higher at 167.00.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Nebraska barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
