Compared to last week steers sold 3.00 to 4.00 lower and heifers sold 1.00 to 3.00 lower on comparable offerings. Demand was moderate to good for calves and feeder cattle. Another week of wide price ranges on slaughter steers and heifers from the packer. So far, live sales are from 103.00-108.00 and dressed sales from 162.00-172.00. On a good note, for some reason slaughter weights have decreased for the second week in a row. Actual slaughter for weekending 5/30 saw all live weights down 3 lbs at 1367, steer carcass down 3 lbs at 891 and heifer carcass unchanged at 826 lbs. Early in the week, some areas of the state received large amounts of rain, hail and high winds along with a few tornadoes. Some area crops, and pastures received some damage from the hail and wind with insurance adjusters on site by the end of the week.
