Compared to last week: Steer calves under 500 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 higher, instances to 20.00 higher, 500-650 lbs steady to 2.00 higher, over 650 lbs 5.00 to 7.00 lower. Heifer calves under 500 lbs 4.00 to 8.00 lower, over 500 lbs 4.00 to 5.00 higher. Demand for steer and heifer calves was much more moderate this week as the cattle futures complex continues to drop quickly. Cash fed cattle were pulled lower as well, 178.00 in Iowa and Nebraska on Friday. Another Cattle On Feed Report showed more cattle on feed and more cattle placed than last year, which was as expected and what was causing the weakness in the futures contracts. Confidence of cattle feeders that the fat market could hit 200.00 by April has been dealt a great blow. No one that produces cattle saw this market weakness coming after such a bullish spring and summer marketing season, especially as the summer months were fed cattle supplies are the most burdensome.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
