Compared to last week: Feeder steers unevenly steady, heifers 3.00 to 5.00 lower. Good demand for steers and heifers this week, however by far the best demand is for those cattle to background and make yearlings out of. The fall months of the CME Feeder Cattle contracts are at a nearly 30.00 premium to the current month. Yearling operators are wanting to capitalize on this opportunity and want to get these green, light cattle bought while they can. The continuing drought is the worst in western North Dakota where moisture continues to remain very elusive. Demand for cattle suitable for finishing yards is good but with the costs of gain as high as it is, flesh is a major factor.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
