Too few feeder cattle offered in the auctions to allow a good price comparison. Very good demand for yearling steers and heifers as cattle feeders are eager to buy these light fleshed cattle, straight off grass. As the drought rages on across the trade area yearlings are being forced off grass early and are coming to market. Corn chopping has begun as well as the drought has devastated the corn crop. With cash fed cattle at 125.00 this week, which is much higher than the level many industry analysts had predicted, and spring Live Cattle futures just under 140.00 cattle feeders want to get these yearling cattle bought while they are available.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
