Compared to last week's limited offering: Feeder steers under 800 lbs 2.00 to 6.00 higher, over 800 lbs steady to 3.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 700 lbs 4.00 to 8.00 higher, over 700 lbs steady to 2.00 higher. Very good demand for lighter weight cattle, more moderate demand for those heavier cattle suitable only for finishing. As the winter storm that struck the midwest at the end of the calendar year that brought heavy snowfall amounts and 1 to 2 inches of rain, the concern for poor feeding conditions in feedyards is a major concern. Cattle feeders have just now reached profitability, the first time in a very long time, and are really concerned about the muddy, or soon to be muddy feedyard pens and how that will cause feeding performance to suffer. Higher Feeder and Live Cattle futures this week definitely helped to support the feeder market but buyers of bigger cattle approached the market much more warily than those who will buy light cattle to background. Large auction receipts this week as this was the first full week of the marketing new year as all auctions are back on their normal schedules. Large receipts expected again for next week.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
