Yearling heifers offered the best test this week as most offerings over 850 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher. Yearling heifers under 850 lbs were too narrowly compared to develop a full market trend, however higher to sharply higher undertones were noticed. Feeder steers were all too lightly tested to develop any market trend. A few packages of calves are starting to show up, however not enough for a full market trend. Good to very good demand was seen for all feeder cattle this week. Most offerings this week were offered in small packages and these offerings were met with lighter demand than load lots, which were seen last week. CME feeder cattle positions continue to march higher with week over week increases seen again this week. As of Fridays close the September contract closed at 364.775 and the October closed at 364.475. Demand for cutting bulls remains very good with several buyers looking for bulls to cut and make steers. Market activity was mostly active this past week with many bidders noticed both in the stands and over the internet. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for light to moderate offerings. Demand for slaughter cows was mostly moderate, but not as strong as the previous week. Slaughter cows were to lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady undertones were noticed on all offerings. Very few cow were purchased to slaughter as too many feeding cow buyers were present this week and many were willing to take cows which were slightly blemished to feed. Only severely blemished cows were purchased for immediate harvest this week. Feeding cows sold on very good demand as private feeders and packer buyers both showed strong demand for cows to feed. Quality was mostly plain to average this week and similar to last week. Feeding cows sold mostly steady to 5.00 higher. Very good demand was seen for thin fleshed cows which would gain quickly on feed. Slaughter bulls sold on good demand for moderate offerings. Slaughter bulls sold mostly steady. Many thin fleshed, low yielding, bulls continue to be seen as many have been turned out with cows. Packers showed very good demand for sound bulls which would feed. Feeding bulls sold generally steady. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold on good demand for limited offerings. Offerings were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady undertones were noticed.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
