Compared to last week: Montana only had two sales covered last week. Feeder cattle were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to higher undertones were noticed on all offerings. Demand for all feeder cattle remains good to very good. Demand for cutting bulls remains very good with several buyers looking for bulls to cut and make steers. Bulls are bringing a very small discount to steers over the past few weeks. Some sales saw some variation in prices as limited cattle made squaring up loads difficult. Market activity was mostly active this past week with many bidders noticed both in the stands and over the internet. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for light to moderate offerings. Demand for slaughter cows was mostly good to very good as packers purchased some cows away from feeding buyers to send to immediate slaughter. Slaughter cows were to lightly tested the previous week to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed on all offerings. Feeding cows sold on good to very good demand as private feeders and packer buyers both showed strong demand for high quality cows to feed. Quality limited demand in spots as very few attractive cows were seen this week. Quality was mostly plain to average, with a limited offering of attractive cows noted. Slaughter bulls sold on good demand for moderate offerings slaughter bulls sold mostly steady to firm. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold on good demand for limited offerings. Several buyers purchased offerings to feed as supplies of market ready cattle remain tight and buyers looked for fleshy offerings which would finish quickly or could blend on to market ready loads. offerings were too light to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
