Compared to last week: All feeder cattle were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed on all offerings. Demand was mostly good to very good for light offerings. Quality was mostly plain to average. Packages were small with many singles on offer. CME positions traded mostly sideways this week. Corn traded with some volatility as both sharply higher and sharply lower days were seen before ending the week higher than it started. Market activity was mostly active this week. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good to very good demand for light to moderate offerings. Packers pushed to own as much of the cow offering as possible this past week as they pushed all offerings higher trying to secure offerings for immediate harvest. Packers purchased very few cows to feed this week and no cows were purchased to feed by packers late in the week. Slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 higher on breaking and boning cows, lean cows sold 1.00-3.00 higher. High quality cows suitable to feed, sold steady to 3.00 higher. Cow quality was mostly average to very attractive this week, and overall much more attractive than last week. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested last week to develop a full market trend, however unevenly steady undertones were noticed. Bull quality was mostly average to attractive. Weigh up conditions were mostly attractive to buyers early in the sale, however hot days have most weigh ups packing on fill as the sale progresses. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold generally steady. Buyers were looking for rebreed or recip type cows this sale helped keep this class of cows near steady as they bid against feeding buyers looking for cows that are young enough to still grade choice.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
