Compared to last week: All feeder cattle were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed on all cattle on offer. Demand was mostly good to very good this week for light offerings. Quality was mostly plain to average. Local ranchers and order buyers bid aggressively this week over limited offerings which helped keep prices similar to last weeks feeder special week. CME positions struggled this week as several days saw triple digit losses. However, many ranchers continue to push to fill summer pastures and prices remained generally steady for another week. The best demand continues to be seen for grass cattle. Recent timely rains have been great for pasture and range conditions as much of the countryside had greened. Market activity was mostly active this week with a large crowd on hand at all sales. Weigh up cows sold on mostly moderate to good demand for light to moderate offerings. Packers opted to send much of the cow offering to feed this week. heavier supplies of cows are being seen as seasonal culling is taking place. Additionally pockets of drought around the country are starting to drive cows to market as well. Slaughter cows sold mostly 2.00 higher on breaking cows, boning and lean cows sold steady to 2.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold generally steady. Feeding cows sold firm in a narrow comparison. Cow and bull quality was average this week. Weigh up conditions were mixed. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold on very good demand. These offerings sold steady.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
