Compared to last week: Steer calves under 500 lbs sold mostly steady to 10.00 higher, steer calves over 500 lbs sold 3.00-9.00 lower. Yearling steers were too lightly tested to develop a full market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed on a higher quality offering. Heifer calves under 500 lbs sold steady to 2.00 higher, heifer calves over 500 lbs sold mostly 5.00-9.00 lower. Yearling heifers sold steady to 2.00 lower in a narrow comparison. Quality this week was average to attractive. More market participants were seen this week as farmer feeders were active in buying light calves. Market activity was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on light to moderate demand and offerings. Packers showed light demand for slaughter cows this week and opted to feed most of the high quality cows in the offering. Many wet bagged cows were seen and demand for these offerings was mostly light. Slaughter cows sold 1.00-3.00 lower on all offerings. Feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-4.00 lower as lighter slaughter demand allowed feeding cow prices to fall as well. Slaughter bulls sold 2.00-3.00 higher. Packers purchased a portion of the bull offering to feed, and with a limited offering seen the remaining bulls sold higher. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold mostly 2.00-5.00 higher. Good demand was seen for rebreed offerings as several order buyers were active throughout the week buying loads.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
