Compared to last week: Only two sales were held this past week due to summer schedules. Offerings were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed. Quality was mostly average this week. Demand for feeders was mostly good to very good, despite limited offerings. CME positions continue to support higher prices as contracts have inched higher in recent weeks and deferred contracts continue to flirt with new contract highs this week. The August contract closed Friday at 178.575, the September closed at 181.55 and the October closed at 183.725. Market activity was mostly active this week. Weigh up cows sold on mixed demand. Demand from western packers was moderate to good this week while Eastern packers showed light to moderate demand, due to heavier supplies seen from drought areas. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold 8.00-10.00 lower. Feeding cows sold steady to 2.00 lower. Weigh up conditions were mixed this week. Cow and bull quality continues to be mostly average to attractive. Very few lean cows were seen this week as grazing conditions remain in good condition. The cutter cow cutout was a mixed bag this week as heavy supplies are being seen by southern packers and tighter supplies are being seen by western packers which has caused some volatility in the cutter cow cutout price. The National weekly cutter cow cutout price was 213.57 down 3.39 from last week. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold generally steady to weak. Quality was mostly average.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
