Compared to last week: Steer calves under 500 lbs were too lightly tested to trend, however higher undertones were noticed. Steers 500-699 lbs sold fully steady, steers over 700 lbs sold 3.00-6.00 higher. Heifer calves under 450 lbs were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend however steady to higher undertones were noticed. Heifers 450-599 lbs sold unevenly steady; heifers over 600 lbs sold 4.00 to 8.00 higher. Quality this week was mixed from plain to very attractive. Order buyers purchasing cattle for packers showed mostly good to very good demand for cattle destined for the feed lot. Several load lots were seen this week and these offerings were met with very good demand. Cattle suitable to develop into yearlings sold on moderate demand this week and sold steady for the first time in weeks. The August feeder cattle contract continues to hold near steady this past week at 184.70, 0.225 lower. CME positions traded sideways for the week. The March closed at 166.10, up 0.125 from last week, the April closed at 170.70, 0.725 lower. Market activity this week was mostly active with a large crowd of buyers on hand actively bidding on offerings. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for moderate to heavy offerings. Packers showed moderate to good demand for slaughter cows this week. Packers didn't send as many cows to immediate harvest this week, instead they opted to feed many of the cows on offer. Many sets of cows had been started on feed this week as most come out of fed lots. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher on a higher quality offering of breaking cows, while boning and lean cows sold steady to weak. Feeding cow sold mostly steady to 3.00 higher. Feeding type cows were of mostly attractive quality this week. Many of these offerings were advertised to have an overnight stand and weigh up conditions were average. Slaughter bulls sold unevenly steady from 2.00 lower to 2.00 higher. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold generally steady. Demand for these offerings was mostly moderate to good. A small portion of the offering was comprised of heifers that lost their 1st calves. These offerings were met with very good demand.
