Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to higher undertones were noticed. Quality this week was plain to average and lower overall than last week. Demand was mostly moderate to good for light offerings. The August CME feeder cattle contract closed 3.85 higher than last Fridays close at 155.025. Weigh up cows comprised the majority of sales last week. Demand was mostly moderate to good for moderate to heavy offerings. Breaking cows and boning cows sold generally steady while lean cows sold mostly 2.00-3.00 higher. Packers were very aggressive as they purchased cows to feed this week. Packers purchased the majority of the cow offerings to put on feed this week. Feeding cows sold mostly 3.00-5.00 higher. The cutter cow cutout continues to move higher as the 4th of July usually marks the height of ground meat demand. The weekly cutter cow cutout closed at 225.58, 3.00 higher than last week. Slaughter bulls started the week lower but held their ground late in the week as packers showed stronger demand as the week progressed. Slaughter bulls sold steady to 1.00 lower. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold generally steady. Demand from local ranchers helped improve this class of cattle as several ranchers were looking for replacement stock cows.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
