Compared to last week: Unweaned steer calves under 400 lbs sold generally steady; 400-599 lbs sold mostly 8.00-15.00 lower, 600-699 lbs steers sold mostly 4.00-6.00 lower. Yearling steers sold mostly 8.00-10.00 lower. Unweaned heifer calves under 450 lbs sold steady to 5.00 lower, 450-699 lbs heifers sold mostly 2.00-5.00 lower. Yearling heifers mostly mostly 3.00-8.00 lower. CME positions as of yesterdays close showed the October and November at 133.825 and 130.425 respectfully. A lower board coupled with wet, snowy, cold conditions pressured the calf market lower this week. The stands were filled with buyers over the past week, however many sat on their hands as they sited poor market conditions while passing on offerings. Market activity this week was slow to moderate. Weigh up cows continue to sell on a two tier market. Good to very good demand continues to be seen for breaking and boning cows suitable to feed and mostly light to moderate demand was seen for lean, lightly fleshed cows. Feeding cows sold unevenly steady on breaking flesh cows, while lean and boning flesh cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 higher on boning and lean cows. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested to trend as many bulls sold to feeding buyers this week, however higher undertones were noticed. Most cows had freshly weaned calves pulled off them and had heavy bags as a result. Weigh up conditions were mostly average this week and overall better than last. Cow quality was mostly average this week, however quality was higher this week than last. Demand for rebreed type cattle was light to moderate this week. Offerings sold mostly 5.00-8.00 lower. Quality was average to attractive.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
