Compared to last week: Unweaned steer calves under 450 lbs were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to higher undertones were noticed. 450-649 lbs sold mostly steady to 10.00 lower. Yearling steers were all too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, steady undertones were noticed. Unweaned heifer calves under 450 lbs were too lightly tested either this week or last to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to lower undertones were noticed, 450-499 lbs heifers sold mostly 5.00-15.00 lower, 500-599 lbs heifers sold steady to 5.00 lower. Yearling heifers under 800 lbs sold mostly steady to 4.00 higher, heifers over 800 lbs sold mostly steady to 1.00 higher. CME positions as of yesterdays close showed the October and November at 138.05 and 136.45 respectfully. A loss of 2.875 on the October and 4.80 on the November. A lower board along with warm dry, dusty conditions pressured the calf market lower this week. Yearling cattle sold on strong demand this week as many feeders prefer to feed yearlings over unweaned calves. Market activity this week was slow to moderate. Weigh up cows sold on a two tier market with good to very good demand seen for breaking and boning cows suitable to feed and mostly light demand seen for lean, lightly fleshed cows. Feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-3.00 higher on boning and breaking flesh cows, while lean flesh cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 lower. Breaking flesh slaughter cows sold 3.00-4.00 higher, boning and lean cows sold steady to 3.00 lower. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 1.00-2.00 lower. Many cows were coming out of dry country and were very thin. Most cows had freshly weaned calves pulled off them and had heavy bags as a result. Weigh up conditions were mostly below average this week as many cows were very full. Cow quality was mostly plain to average. Bull quality was not as attractive this week and fill conditions were not in buyers favor. Demand for rebreed type cattle was stronger this week as more buyers were interested in this class of cow. Offerings sold mostly 5.00-12.00 higher. Quality was average to attractive.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
