Compared to last week: Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested to develop any market trend, however yearlings continue to sell on good demand. Steer calves weighing less than 500 lbs sold mostly 5.00-10.00 lower; 500-599 lbs sold mostly 1.00-5.00 lower; steers over 600 lbs sold mostly steady to 2.00 lower. Heifer calves weighing less than 550 lbs sold mostly 2.00-3.00 lower; heifer calves weighing over 550 lbs sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher. Quality this week was mixed, however most calves were of average to attractive quality. Weaned calves made up a significant portion of the offering this week. This made comparisons difficult in places as most of last weeks offering was comprised of un-weaned calves. The quality of weaned calves continues to improve each week as offerings are weaned for longer periods of time. Most offerings this week were weaned 45-90 days. Demand was mostly light to moderate this week for very heavy offerings. Market activity was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on light to moderate demand for mostly light to moderate offerings. Due to the Blue ribbon bred cow special much of this weeks cow offering was comprised of bred cows and heifers. Packers showed lighter demand for slaughter cows this week opting to harvest only cows not suitable to send to feed. Slaughter cows sold mostly 1.00-2.00 lower. Feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-5.00 lower, with thin fleshed cows offering the largest week over week decline. Young age cows suitable to re-breed sold mostly 1.00-4.00 lower. Quality was average to attractive.
