Compared to last report: Only two sales were held this week and very light sales receipts were seen. Feeder cattle sold on mostly moderate to good demand for mostly light offerings. Not enough feeder cattle sold to develop an accurate market trend, however firm undertones were noted. CME positions traded lower throughout the week last week and spent much of this week trying to gain back some of their loss. As of yesterdays close the August contract closed at 139.85, the September contract closed at 139.875 and the October contract closed at 139.625. Market activity this week was mostly moderate. Weigh up cows and bulls comprised the majority of sales this week. Ranchers continue to cull open cows and bulls that are blemished. Cow and bull quality was mostly average to attractive this week. Packers drove the market as they pushed to own the majority of cows on offer. With light sale receipts seen last week, a true market trend can?t be developed, however higher undertones were noticed on all classes of slaughter cows. Feeding cows sold on good demand as well. Packers forced all offerings higher this week limiting the number of offerings destined for feed. Young cows sold with higher undertones on good demand. Offerings were light.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
