Missouri Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Compared to last week, feeders sold steady to 10.00 lower. Another very light week for volume at the auctions as extreme heat continues to set over the state. The story has seemed to play like a broken record as of late. Pasture conditions continue to decline as rain has been scarce. Some producers in the south are feeding hay and having concerns with water supplies. In the north conditions are better but the lack of rain is starting to show in many areas now as well. Uncertainty about current and any potential fall pastures as put pressure on the replacement cow market in the drier areas of the state. Stick-out sales and drafts 20 head were once again very limited on lighter weights. Green City Livestock Market sold several loads and part loads of yearlings and background calves this week, 27 head of 609 lb. steers sold for 401.00, 75 head of 712 lb. steers sold for 374.50, 42 head of 780 lb. steers sold for 345.50, and 60 head of 869 lb. steers sold for 339.50. Callaway Livestock Center sold 27 head of 460 lb. steers for 430.00. Unionville Livestock Market sold 62 head of 932 lb. steers for 321.25. Tina Livestock Market sold 71 head of 724 lb. heifers for 336.00. Boxed beef cut-out values were lower for the week. Choice closed at 376.17, down 0.06 and Select closed at 355.87, down 5.21 compared to last week. The choice/select spread is 20.30 per cwt. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday were reported just over 48K head, trade in the southern plains was not reported due to confidentially rules within mandatory price reporting. In the north, live prices were mostly 218.00, a few sales at the end of the week were reported at 220.00-222.00 and dressed prices mostly 345.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 942 head with a weighted average weight of 557.84 lbs. and a price value of 383.20, 7.25 lower than last week. The steer/heifer is 28.00 per cwt.
