USDA puts feeder cattle receipts at 37,605 head. slaughter cattle receipts at 3,580 head. replacement cattle receipts at 1,862 head. Counted as USDA files them — 202 of those are cow-calf pairs, each counted once.

Compared to last week, feeders sold steady to 5.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate, and demand was good. Although the steer/heifer ratio was near normal it was noted that many of the largest drafts in the state this week were heifers with many 650-750 lb. load lots coming to the barns. Despite some slight talk of rebuilding and guys looking for cows it seems the record or near record prices are discouraging much retention at this point. Although it wasn't statewide there was a fair amount of the state that got an inch or two of rain which was much needed as the early spring is already consuming moisture and 99.5 percent of the state was shown in the latest drought monitor. Although nothing has been confirmed it is no surprise there has been a lot of mention of several crop farmers getting the itch to get planters in the fields. Although it wouldn't be the earliest planting date that I can recall in my career it is still quite early in the year. A few of this week's stick out sales included 27 head of 474 lb. steers at Kingsville Livestock Auction which sold for 374.00. Callaway Livestock Center sold 39 head of 544 lb. steers for 337.50. A load of 679 lb. steers at Unionville Livestock Market brought 289.00. Lolli Brothers Livestock Market had a handful of partial loads of 700-710 lb. steers that sold from 284.00-286.00. Windsor Livestock Market sold a load of 854 lb. steers for 249.75. One of the higher priced of several loads of 700-750 lb. heifers around the state this week sold at Tina Livestock Market for 254.75. Boxed beef cutouts values continue to inch higher as grilling season gets closer. Choice closed on Friday at 307.04, up 1.76 and select closed at 297.43, up 1.69 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the Friday afternoon report totaled 62K head with sales mostly taking place on Thursday. Live sales were reported at 183.00-186.00 and Dressed sales at 292.00-300.00. Missouri Stocker formula consists of 7,486 head with a weighted average weight of 545.30 lbs. and a price value of 313.37, 2.29 higher than a week ago. The steer/heifer spread is 39.19.
