Compared to last week, feeders sold unevenly steady from 5.00 lower to 5.00 higher on a light supply. Extreme heat was the case until late Thursday making it difficult to dangerous for cattle transport. A few auctions cancelled and others had much smaller volume that typical, even for the slower summer marketing time. Quality was also mixed with very few big drafts or load and more small packages of odds and ends. Demand was moderate and it is getting to the time of year were weaning and some kind of health program is a must and not an option unless producers are willing to give up several dollars. These discounts will continue to get more severe in the coming weeks. Boxed beef cutouts soared as choice closed on Friday at 324.83, up 28.57 and select at 298.02, up 20.93 compared to last week. Feedlot on a negotiated basis as of Friday afternoon totaled about 70K head with a live price reported mostly from 121.00-126.00, some late Friday sales up to 127.50 and dressed sales mostly 198.00-203.00 with some late sales up to 205.00. The Missouri Stocker Formula consist of 2521 head with a weighted average weight of 551.92 and a price value of 168.38, down 2.04 from last week.
