Compared to last week, steers sold uneven; 2.00 lower to 2.00 higher. Heifers sold steady to 7.00 lower. Demand was moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls sold 1.00 to 4.00 lower. In the hay market, demand remained steady while movement slowed as available hay inventories began to diminish. As drought conditions worsen and producers explore alternative feed sources, producers should be aware of pesticide label requirements regarding what can and cannot be used for livestock feed. According to the US Drought Monitor for the week of September 24th, The High Plains states experienced almost exclusively drought improvements this week, as many areas experienced beneficial rainfall, with Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska being beneficiaries of the east-Pacific El Nino tropical connection. Despite temperatures being up to 6 or more degrees above average, the plentiful rainfall has contributed to drought improvement in many areas this week.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Kansas barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
