Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves not well tested. Yearling steers and heifers sold uneven; 3.00 lower to 3.00 higher. Demand was good on light to moderate supply. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 3.00 higher. In the feedlot trade, light trading of negotiated live sales in Kansas sold mostly steady at 235.00. In the hay market, demand was light, and prices were steady. Trade remains slow to moderate with most trades occurring in the southwest region. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for the week of August 5th, A broken pattern of heavy rainfall - with upwards of 3 inches reported in spots - prevailed from northern Kansas through much of the Dakotas. The improvements left severe drought confined to part of south-central Nebraska and adjacent Kansas, southwestern Nebraska, and a small area in south-central South Dakota.
