Compared to last week, steers and heifers traded 5.00 to 12.00 higher where comparisons could be made. Demand was good on light to moderate supply. Slaughter cows sold steady while slaughter bulls sold steady to 4.00 higher. In the feedlot trade, negotiated live sales in Kansas sold steady to 1.00 higher at 230.00 to 231.00. In the hay market, demand was light, trade was moderate, and prices were steady, on limited test as producers have been busy in the fields. Hot, muggy and humid weather seems to be the current trend, with the southwest continuing to receive rain. This is great for corn but hard on the hay producer. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for the week of July 8th, another round of heavy rainfall (1 to 2 inches, locally more) supported a 1-category improvement to parts of the Northern and Central Great Plains. Eastern Kansas has missed out on the heavy rainfall recently and abnormal dryness (D0) was added to that part of the state.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Kansas barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
