Compared to last week, no comparison for a market trend. Demand was good. In the hay market Demand is still light for all hay offerings, however more tons were moved. Hay prices were mostly steady for all hay types, with the exception of dairy quality hay, falling $0.05/point RFV. The rain that has been falling across the state is appreciated by many, but it sure is making haying difficult. According to the US Drought Monitor's High Plains summary for the week of July 2nd, A couple of troughs of low pressure moved across the western and central U.S. this week, helping to tap into some moisture from the Pacific Ocean and draw it into the region. This resulted in heavy rainfall across parts of the Four Corners and extending eastward into the Central and Eastern Plains. Parts of Kansas and eastern Nebraska received well in excess of 3 inches of rainfall. The categorical percent area for abnormally dry conditions (D0) remained at 33%, moderate drought (D1) decreased to 17%, severe drought (D2) decreased to 4%, and no extreme drought (D3) or exceptional drought (D4) was recorded.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Kansas barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
