Compared to last week steer and heifer calves weaned and bawlers sold sharply higher as most weight were fully 20.00 per cwt higher. Yearling steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. Slaughter steers and heifers sold 1.00 to 2.00 higher, slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 higher and bulls 1.00 higher. Demand was good to instances very good with only two feeder auction reporting this week. Farmers are getting the crops out and the farmer/feeder is getting ready for cattle to be backgrounded or finished. With low numbers of available cattle producers are pushing the price higher in order to get cattle procured. Bulk of the sale comprised of steer cattle with a small percentage of heifers hitting the market. Are producers keeping heifers back or just growing them to see what a 7 weight heifer will be worth after the first of the year?
