This month's offering was on the lighter side but was made up of a mix of new crop and old crop hay, very little new crop hay has been baled due to the wet conditions the last several weeks across the region. The trend for baling hay this month has continued from last month as we all have seen fuel and baling cost skyrocket even more, including the freight cost from out of state consignors tightened the supply this month. This months' offering consisted of 81 percent (2793) small square bales, 12 percent (423) large squares, and 7 percent (231) round bales. Once math was done and tonnage prices were figured here is how most hay worked out. Alfalfa Good 210.00-225.00, Good to Premium 295.00 to 310.00. Premium 340.00 to 370.00. Brome Good 137.00, Good to Premium 160.00, and Premium Brome/Alfalfa Mix 260.00-300.00. Prairie hay round bales Good 90.00-100.00. Mixed grasses Fair 35.00-60.00, Fair to Good 65.00-100.00, and Good 105.00-180.00. MIx grass Xtra good up to 215.00. Overall, the trend was higher this month due to the uncertain weather patterns and the supply versus demand in the hay market in many states. Buyer demand was very good.
