As filedBeautiful weather here at Southwest Missouri Hay Auction. 5 acres filled with hay, and buyers. Some would say with the temperature in the mid 50's for sale day and maybe highs in the low 70's for part of the week to come that the groundhog was wrong. However having spring like temperatures did not slow down livestock owners from attending. 6,773 bales made its way to the auction, which was a supply of 4620 square bales or 68% and 2153 round bales or 32%, as well as the largest crowd to date was present for the sale. Small square bales of grass, down from previous month due to over supply. Small square alfalfa saw sharp demand due to only having 2 lots sell. Tops on alfalfa $17.50/bale. Orchard grass $12.50. Brome $8.50. Teff $7. Bermuda $7.
On the big squares. High demand in all classes of forage. Top prices this month for premium alfalfa $450/ton once math was figured. While the whole bale count in that lot didn't sell at that price, with the clean up bid factored in 94 bales still had an average of $373/ton. Brome topped at $231/ton. Prairie topped at $162.50/ton. Red Clover $207/ton. Wheat straw in 3x3 bales $40/bale.
Round bales top prices straight alfalfa $223/ton alfalfa orchard grass 3rd cut $212/ton. Brome $155/ton. Prairie $145/ton.
