Happy New Year from everyone at SWMO Hay Auctions.

Sale day was full of active buyers, with the quality offered better than most sales, as well as the prices. With temperatures average, to above average, several buyers were on hand to make sure they're prepared for Missouri weather. Hay from 8 states made its way to SW Missouri and the quality hay showed value. Hay that had great color and excellent leaf retention saw increased bidding. All hay is sold by the bale, but with various bale size and weights, this commentary was converted to a per ton price.

Top prices on rounds once math was figured. Alfalfa $255/ton. Alfalfa orchard $220/ton. "Fancy" Brome hay $165/ton. Prairie hay $125/ton.

On the square side, alfalfa topped at $401/ton. Red clover $196/ton. Fancy Brome topped at $227/ton. 2nd cut orchard grass $220/ton.

Top prices on Small squares "per bale"

Alfalfa $14.50/bale

Fancy Brome $12/bale

Prairie $6/bale.

Total Offerings:

1518 or 37% were round bales and 2590 or 63% were square bales.

Thank you to all our buyers and sellers. See you February 7th at the next hay auction.
