Cooler nights and more active weather has brought some much needed ground moisture for much of the southwest Missouri area, however heavier rains are still needed to fill the ponds up before winter. There was a heavy supply of round bales as we kick off feeding season, with bidding being a little sluggish on several lots there were still a few key lots that several bidders felt they just had to have, driving one lot of round bales of brome hay to $170/ton. Alfalfa round bales held steady from last month. On the big squares, grass hay held steady while alfalfa prices came up. One load of dairy alfalfa averaging 251/ton. Small squares found a steady market based on quality, ranging from $6/bale up to $15.
Total offerings:
1630 or 40% were round bales and 2432 or 60% was square bales. After the accounting has been completed, the fair to good
quality grass round bales figured mostly 57-93 per ton, good quality round bales of grass mostly 96-170 ton. Some round bales
of Alfalfa mostly good quality 160-200 per ton. Large square bales of grasses good to premium 120-195 ton with a few lots at
220 to 235 per ton. Large squares of alfalfa good to premium quality figured to 195-235, with top quality alfalfa selling from 235
to 295 per ton.
