Most of the state is still seeing much dryer and warmer temps than normal for early fall and buyers are continuing to show good demand for hay. There was a moderate crowd on hand for this months sale with several buyers working the fall harvest and other local events going on! That being said, it was a very active hay market with phone and online bids also. Several lots of forage were in the offering, along with several lots of higher quality grass hay that sparked interest in buyers. While much of the sale was grass hay, 2 lots of premium alfalfa round bales skyrocketed activity selling for over $300/ton. On the square bale side, grass and alfalfa hay seen a lower trend over last months sale, however, once again 2 lots of alfalfa that had a near perfect bale job, with lots of color and leaf retention as the highlight of the sale topping $360/ton once the math was figured. Total offerings 1574 or 40% were round bales and 2331 or 60% was square bales. After the accounting has been completed, the fair to good quality grass round bales figured mostly 55-90 per ton, good quality round bales of grass mostly 95-155 ton. Some round bales of Alfalfa mostly good quality 160-300 per ton. Large square bales of grasses good to premium 120-185 ton with a few lots at 230 to 245 per ton. Large squares of alfalfa good to premium quality figured to 200-235, with top quality alfalfa selling from 250 to 360 per ton.
