Weather was as expected for August, hot and getting dry. Counties in SW MO along the KS line have been listed as abnormally dry on the latest drought monitor and some pastures and fields of fescue are starting to burn. At the current time the rest of the state is considered drought free however it will not take long at these extreme temperatures for that to quickly change. It has been a great year for growing grass thus far and the supply of hay reflects that. Many fields of grass have been cut twice now, which is nearly unheard of prior to fall grass growth in Missouri. Attendance at today's auction was quite good considering the sun was already bearing down and shade was at a premium by the midmorning start time. Grass hay sold steady to 20.00 lower per ton after one did the math. Alfalfa sold steady with some Premium to Supreme quality figuring up to 300 per ton. Demand was light to slightly moderate and buyers seemed to appreciate the hay with some green color inside.
