Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last Thursday. Stocker and feeder cattle weak in a light test. Buyer attendance was light. Quality not as attractive as last week with most offerings small bunches and singles. Feeder cattle closed red as well with 15 cent to 92 cents losses on the board. The CME Feeder Cattle Index from 11/02 was 34 cents stronger to $177.63. Slaughter cows 4.00-6.00 lower. Not enough slaughter bulls for accurate trends. Trade active with good demand esp for young cows to go to feed and Bred cows. Census data had 275.8m lbs of beef shipments during September. That was down 6% yr/yr as the 2nd most for the month on record. YTD beef shipments reached 2.69b lbs through Sep and remains at a record pace.

USDA's FAS reported 9,002 MT of beef sales for the week that ended 10/27. That was a 14-wk low not counting the data flaws during late August. The report also showed 18k MT was shipped through the week, for a season total of 788k TM. That remains at record pace, up 2.4% yr/yr.
