Compared to last week: Steer calves traded mostly 2.00 to 5.00 lower, while heifer calves traded mostly firm to 1.00 higher. Not enough comparable sales on yearlings for a market trend. Trading activity was moderate on moderate to buyer demand. Slaughter cows too lightly tested for a market trend. Cooler weather and another 1 to 2 inches of rain moved across the trading region Sunday into Monday. Despite the bullish Cattle on Feed report, which showed September placements down 12.1 percent from last year, and favorable winter wheat pasture conditions, buyer interest was somewhat restrained. Recent heavy rainfall and muddy conditions across much of the region made buyers more cautious, limiting support for calf prices.
