Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week: Steer and heifer calves traded mostly 20.00 to 30.00 lower on comparable sales. Feeder steers and heifers were too lightly tested for a market trend but a lower undertone was noted. Slaughter cows traded 10.00 to 15.00 lower. Slaughter bulls were 5.00 lower on a light test. Buyer demand was light to moderate as the board closed sharply lower again today and abnormally hot and dry conditions continue across the Panhandle. Drought conditions have expanded, with the entire Panhandle now listed in the Severe to Exceptional drought categories and some cities now putting in water conservation measures and restrictions. The supply consisted primarily of replacement cows from droughted out producers, along with short weaned calves.
