Compared to last week: What a difference late rains and unseasonably warm temperatures can do to an outlook. Wheat is starting to pop around the area bringing wheat calves to the forefront. Due to the short run last week, there were few comparable sales on steer and heifer calves to state a trend, but demand was definitely higher. Particularly on healthy, weaned, thin fleshed steers. Feeder steers weighing 750-850 brought 7.00-15.00 higher and 900 pounders up 19.00. Feeders heifers seemed mixed on no comparable sales. The slaughter cattle sale consisted largely of droughty, open, beef cows of all ages. Average to high yielding cows sold mostly steady to a tick lower. No test on bulls.
