Compared to two weeks ago: Very few comparable sales as last sale was much smaller, Feeder Steers and Heifers 700-750 lbs 2.00 higher, while other weights sold with much higher undertones. Very good demand for these high quality yearling steers and heifers, flesh condition was attractive and light overall and buyers are eager to get them bought, taking all loads when offered to them. The spring months of the Live Cattle contract continues to lend support the feeder cattle market, along with weakness in the corn futures. There was a good offering of spring born calves that were met with very good demand. The market was very active for these long strings, and even for the smaller packages, in spite of how it would normally be considered too early for many operations to want to buy a calf. There were plenty of buyers on the seats actively bidding on these good, green calves. The drought has ravaged the trade area and has pushed these calves to market 2-3 months earlier than usual which has resulted in many calves weighing less than 400 lbs. Not all of the calves were fully preconditioned, but there were plenty of outlets for those calves too. Next special feeder cattle sale will be Sept. 3, 2021.
