Compared to last week: Fed steers steady to 4.00 higher, heifers 3.00 to 4.00 higher. Holsteins compared to a very light test last week sold with higher undertones. Demand for the larger offering of eye catching fed cattle was moderate. Most cattle were hauled in overnight making weighing conditions favorable for the buyer. Several pot loads of cattle offered today were fed in the shed, very clean and caught the eye of the buyers. Several smaller packages offered today were equally as clean and eye catching. Report that came out last week stated that Marketing of fed cattle in April totaled 1.70 million, 10% below 2022. Year to to date 3.3% down from last year. The Memorial Day Holiday will hopefully have people outside enjoying the weather and grilling beef! Slaughter cows 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Bulls 1.00 to 3.00 higher.
Light split of traditional weight lambs and non traditional weight lambs offered today. Traditional weight lambs hold steady to strong, while non traditional lambs are steady with higher undertones. Demand seems to be very strong for lambs between 80 lbs and 110 lbs. Buyers got out of there seats and stood up to get a good look at lambs of these weights, as they had big orders to fill this week. Black face lambs with the correct tail dock length are in biggest demand along with solid feed, good fleece lambs. 70 lbs and 80 lbs lambs slightly lower this week, while 90 lbs took a decent jump. Slaughter ewes steady to 5.00 higher. Black faced ewes in highest demand.
