Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week: Slaughter steers 3.00 to 4.00 higher, heifers 5.00 to 6.00 higher, Holstein steers 2.00 higher. Light demand for steers and heifers this week, even though the market was higher, as few packer buyers present, and even fewer actively bidding. Boxed beef values continue to rise, as do the Live Cattle futures contracts, keeping packer profits at record levels. Weighing condition average, estimated dressed cost looked to be from 174.00-177.00. Slaughter cows and bulls steady to firm.

Slaughter lambs steady to 1.00 higher. Slaughter ewes weak to 5.00 lower. Feeder lambs not well tested last week for comparison. Good demand for slaughter lambs of all weights. Very few lambs going to feeding accounts as vast majority of lambs under 100 lbs are being bought for slaughter.
