Compared to last week: Steer and heifer calves sold with steady to higher undertones. Yearling feeder steers 650-750 lbs and 800-850 lbs 6.00 to 8.00 higher, other weights mostly steady. Yearling heifers sold with steady to higher undertones. Very good demand for spring born calves and for yearling steers and heifers as well. The market was very active on the calves as there were plenty of buyers on the seats ready to take calves home and start them on feed. The yearling trade was active, many long strings offered in full loads and multiple load lots allowing buyers to make full feed yard pens of uniform cattle. The quality was attractive, flesh was a bit heavy at times and was definitely a factor in how high prices were able to climb. There were some light fleshed yearlings offered right off grass and these commanded top prices. Triple digit losses in the cattle futures complex did not seem to have any affect on the market at the auction as optimism is running high amongst cattle producers. Slaughter cows and bulls mostly steady.
