Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers sold with substantially higher undertones, except, 750 lb - 800 lb heifers 3.00 to 4.00 lower. Demand for this eye appealing offering of cattle was outstanding. Light weight steers and heifers were a very hot commodity. Heifers under 700 lbs exceeded the steer prices from a week ago. Several large lots of yearlings, along with nice small packages gave order buyers, as well as, farmer buyers the opportunity to fill load lots. Rounds of shots and hided color were the biggest factors influencing bidders decisions. Several lots were hauled in on Friday and sorted on Saturday allowing them to sit in pens with grass hay and cornstalks, which made they very eye appealing and empty. A report came out stating cattle on feed as of June 1 were 11.6 million, down 3% over the same period last year. Placements during the month of May totaled 1.96 million head, 5% higher than 2022. CME Feeder Cattle closed lower. CME Corn closed unchanged. Slaughter cows and bulls steady.
