Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 1000 lbs 2.00 to 6.00 higher, instance to 10.00 higher on 850-900 lbs, over 1000 lbs 1.00 to 2.00 lower. Feeder heifers steady to 5.00 higher. Good demand for steers and heifers under 1000 lbs, light to moderate demand for those heavier cattle. The market was active on the packages of light cattle under 600 lbs as there were numerous buyers for this class of cattle, a moderate to active market on the heavier cattle bound for feedyards with the slowest activity for those cattle over 1000 lbs. There were many farmer feeders, along with the order buyers, who were ready to buy cattle this week after the sharp run-up in the futures contracts last week. The futures made a reversal today as Live Cattle lost 2.00 to 3.00 and Feeder Cattle lost more than 4.00. The flesh condition on the light cattle was light and attractive, perfect for backgrounding, while the backgrounded cattle ranged from light to heavy with more cattle in a moderate to moderate plus condition. Slaughter cows rather steady with last Wednesday's sale, bulls not tested.
