Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 2.00 to 5.00 lower, with some instances of 7.00 to 10.00 lower. Moderate to good demand for this very large offering of feeder cattle. The market started off under much pressure as the Dow Jones was 1,000 points lower and CME Live and Feeder Cattle contracts quickly fell to limit lower shortly after opening. Many long strings of high quality cattle on offer, flesh condition light to moderate plus, some heavy. More heavier fleshed cattle this week than what has been offered in recent weeks. This is where the market was by far the weakest as there are few buyers willing to buy these less efficient gaining cattle. There were more cattle carrying tag on their hides as the ground conditions are sloppy as the temps rose above freezing. The market was very active, most notably on those light fleshed cattle under 600 lbs, as there were many buyers on the seats actively bidding. Slaughter cows and bulls steady compared to last Wednesday.
