Compared to last week: Steer and heifer calves mostly steady in a narrow comparison. Yearling feeder steers steady to 3.00 higher, heifers not well compared. Moderate demand for the limited offering of spring born calves. Quality was very uneven, as was preconditioning status. The calf market was active on high quality, attractive, preconditioned calves, much slower activity on the packages of calves that were lacking fall shots or were plainer in quality. Good demand for these long strings of yearlings, many full loads and multiple load lots, flesh ranged from light to moderate plus but this did not mean the fleshier cattle didn't attract plenty of bids. As the cash fed cattle market moved to 115.00 late last week and with the winter months of the CME Live Cattle contract around 125.00, there are plenty of buyers wanting to place yearlings on feed which created a very active market. Slaughter cows and bulls steady compared to last Wednesday's sale.
