Compared to last week: steers 450 to 499 lbs mostly steady, 500 to 549 and 600 to 649 lbs steady to 5.00 higher, 550 to 599 lbs 10.00 to 15.00 higher. Heifers 400 to 449 lbs mostly steady, 450 to 599 lbs 15.00 to 20.00 higher. A large offering of calves today featuring many loads and many, many packages, including quite a few replacement heifers. Good to very good demand for these home raised calves. All calves came off the cow and most had full preconditioning, or at least one full round of fall shots. Quality varied, mostly average to attractive. Flesh condition ranged from light to moderate with some moderate plus at times. An active market with a house full of buyers, farmer feeders, and bull breeders competing for cattle. Most of the replacement heifers went back to bull breeders interested in buying back their genetics. Bean harvest is mostly complete and corn harvest is progressing rapidly. Two big feeder cattle sales next week, the first on Tuesday, October 27, featuring Black Angus calves, and regular feeder cattle sale on Thursday, October 29.
