Compared to last Thursday: Steer calves under 500 lbs sold with lower undertones compared to Thursday's much larger sale, 500-600 lbs mostly steady, over 600 lbs 10.00 to 14.00 higher. Heifer calves under 500 lbs sold with steady to lower undertones in a narrow comparison, over 500 lbs sold with steady to higher undertones, especially on those replacement quality heifers. Demand was very good for this extremely attractive offering of spring born calves, right off the cows, that were fully preconditioned and bloomy and eye appealing. Flesh condition was light to moderate. As this wasn't the regular sale day there were a few less of the regular order buyers, but there were plenty of order buyers and bull breeders who were ready to buy these high quality strings of calves. Yearling steers didn't have a recent comparison available but demand was very good and the market was very active as loads of yearlings are hard to find. CME Feeder Cattle futures were 3.00 lower but that didn't seem to affect the market at the auction as there is great optimism amongst cattle producers, this was fully on display as the replacement quality heifers offered outsold the steers. Next sale will be Thurs, Oct 31, expecting 6,000 feeders.
