Compared to last week: a lighter offering of yearlings this week with steers not well tested and best test on heifers 850 to 899 lbs steady to 5.00 lower with instances up to 9.00 lower. Many packages of yearlings this week and fewer loads. Overall quality less attractive than last week with many plain quality yearlings on offer today. Moderate to good demand for yearlings. Calves not well tested last week to compared to a much larger calf offering this week. Moderate to good demand for calves depending on shot records and hide color which is reflected in wide price spreads, especially on lighter calves. Calves without a full vaccination record, especially those with only a 7 way shot are a hard sell as buyers are less willing to take the chance that these calves will remain healthy. Most calves came off the cow, however, a few weaned packages were offered, some weaned several months. A wide range of quality in the calf offering. A moderate to active market for both yearlings and calves. Although the futures ended the day on a positive note today, the losses at the end of last week and beginning of this one have eroded confidence and built some uncertainty in the market. The first winter weather is also looming on the horizon with rain and snow followed by much colder temperatures than the area has been seeing, not the ideal weather pattern to take on a bawling calf. Next feeder cattle sale is Wednesday, November 1.
