No comparisons made to last weeks sale due to limited numbers to make comparisons with. Higher undertones noted across the board. Very good demand for all classes of feeder cattle and replacement heifers today. Flesh condition ranged from light fleshed hay fed cattle to moderate plus backgrounded cattle coming out of grow yards. A very active market with lots of buyer interest for todays offering that was mostly home raised, fully preconditioned, and long time weaned. Exceptional demand for the greener cattle suitable for summer grazing programs, good demand noted in the heavier, fleshier back grounded cattle as the futures market indicates higher prices in the future. More profitable for the cattle feeder?? Higher interest rates, higher than usual feed costs, the list of increasing expenses goes on and on. Many strings offering multiple loads of one owner cattle in the same sort with lots of part loads and packages available as well. Better weather this past week allowed for more movement of livestock to the market place. Cattle have been tough to keep clean as most pens are muddy. Fleshy and muddy cattle are tougher to sell when compared to clean haired cattle that are green and suitable for summer grass. Next feeder cattle sale is Friday, March 10, 2023.
