Compared to last weeks sale there wasn't enough yearling cattle in comparison weight classes to make a valid price comparisons. There was a large run of sprayed heifers coming off pasture in today's sale. A very active market on these light fleshed heifers, fancy for quality and up to 16 loads available in the same sort. Not many yearling steers in town. Buyers were a little more reluctant to purchase calves when compared to their aggressiveness on the yearlings. Steer calves from 350 lbs to 449 lbs were generally $6.00 to $10.00 higher, steer calves from 450 lbs to 499 lbs were steady to $3.00 lower, steer calves from 500 lbs to 649 lbs were steady to $4.00 higher. Heifer calves from 400 lbs to 500 lbs were steady to $6.00 higher. No other comparisons available. Several strings of high quality calves were in town today. Full loads were more desirable than part loads and packages. Most of the calves were right off the cow and in light flesh condition with two rounds of shots. There were just one or two consignments of weaned calves. The order buyers were competing with internet bidder for the majority of the cattle, with a few farmer feeders in attendance as most are busy with fall harvest. A pretty good chance for moisture in the area this next week. The next sale will be Wednesday, October 13th. It is a special black hided calf sale, expecting 4,000 head of calves. Be safe and eat BEEF.
